College Campus Redevelopment, Leek
The University of Derby appointed Hunt Architects to re-design the Leek campus of Buxton and Leek College, comprising the demolition of all of the poorest quality learning accommodation to replace it with modern, contemporary facilities that rationalise the estate, provide a sense of place and reconnect the college with the people of Leek.
The campus redevelopment comprises new buildings for Engineering, Construction & Joinery, Art & Design, Honeycomb LLDD Social Enterprise and a conversion of an existing building to provide a Skills Training Centre.
Our scheme proposes a new landscape that highlights the existing Grade II listed Nicholson Institute, places social space at the heart of the campus and provides a safer and more accessible site. New buildings are inspired by the immediate context to reflect the architecture and the materials of Leek.
The £7m redevelopment is part funded by the Skills Funding Agency and the University of Derby.
